Hands-On Watch in ChatGPT and Claude

Ask an AI assistant for watch builds and parts. It can check that they fit and give you a link that opens the build here, ready to finish.

Server address

Hands-On Watch runs a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. It needs no account and saves nothing to one. Add this address to any assistant that supports MCP connectors:

Add it to Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Hands-On Watch, paste the server address, and leave the OAuth fields empty.
  3. In a chat, turn it on from the tools menu, and ask about a watch you'd like to build.

Add it to ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings and turn on Developer mode (under Apps, then Advanced settings).
  2. Create an app named Hands-On Watch, with the server address and No authentication.
  3. Pick it from the tools in the message box, and ask about a watch you'd like to build.

Menus change from time to time, and custom connectors depend on your plan. If a step doesn't match what you see, check your assistant's help pages.

What it can do

search_builds
Searches watches people have built and published, by style, movement, size and price.
get_build
Reads one published build: every part with its price, options and availability.
search_parts
Searches AliExpress for a movement, case, dial, hands or strap that fits your movement.
create_builder_link
Makes a link that opens the builder with the chosen parts, for you to change, save and buy.
check_compatibility
Runs the builder's fit check on two or more parts and says what might not fit.
recreate_from_image
Finds listings that look like the case, dial, hands and strap of the watch in a photo.
get_recreate_result
Fetches a Recreate result that took longer than a few seconds.

Buying parts

Hands-On Watch doesn't sell parts; independent sellers on AliExpress do. The assistant's answers link to Hands-On Watch, where each part links to its AliExpress listing. Those are affiliate links: if you buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Limits

To keep it free and fair, each person has a limit on calls, and Recreate is limited to a few photos a day. Claude doesn't tell us who is asking, so for now everyone using Claude shares one Recreate allowance.

Privacy

The server only receives what the assistant sends to a tool, never your conversation, and photos for Recreate are not stored. Our Privacy Policy explains what we receive and keep.
